A couple of weeks ago we enjoyed a durable companion for the outdoors with the AGM X6. With the AGM Pad P2, we saw a high-value mid-range tablet for the masses. However, the AGM Pad P2 Activebrings an even more rugged design, making it ideal for outdoor enthusiasts and professionals working in challenging environments. This review evaluates whether the additional cost of the Active version is justified by its features and performance.
AGM has established a reputation for rugged smartphones like the G2 Guardian and the H6. With the AGM Pad P2 Active, they have applied their expertise to a tablet designed to endure extreme conditions. The tablet is protected by a thick cover capable of withstanding drops from 1.2 meters.
However, this protection adds to its weight, making it over 1 kg. Removing the cover reduces the weight to 565 gand the thickness to 9.3 mm, revealing the tablet’s basic structure similar to the standard Pad P2. The selfie camera is located on the side of the screen, and the edges, while not slim, are acceptable for the price range.
The key feature of the AGM Pad P2 Active is its rugged cover, pre-installed at the factory. This cover provides comprehensive protection, meeting IP68, IP69K, and MIL-STD-810H standards. The tablet can survive drops from 1.2 meters and is waterproof up to 1.5 meters. It also operates in temperatures ranging from -20°C to 60°C, making it suitable for various environments.
The cover includes practical features like a 360° rotating stand, allowing you to position the tablet on any surface for easy viewing. The stand also functions as a handle, and with the included shoulder strap, you can carry the tablet comfortably, ideal for those who need to transport it all day.
The tablet is powered by the MediaTek Helio G99 processor with a maximum clock speed of 2.2 GHz, delivering solid performance for everyday tasks like web browsing, shopping, and office applications. It also performs well for entertainment, handling streaming and light gaming without issues. The tablet includes various audio options, such as a 3.5 mm jack, Bluetooth 5.2, and integrated stereo speakers. With 8 GB of RAM (expandable to 16 GB) and 256 GB of storage (expandable to 2 TB), it offers ample memory and storage for most users.
The 11-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels and a 90Hz refresh rate provides vivid colors and smooth visuals. However, the 480 nits brightness can be insufficient for use in direct sunlight, where the screen may appear washed out.
The AGM Pad P2 Active features a 50 MP main camera and an 8 MP front camera. While the camera quality is not exceptional, it is adequate for casual photography and video recording. The main camera includes a flash for low-light conditions, but the images can sometimes be blurry and lack detail. The front camera is sufficient for selfies and video calls, with video recording capabilities of 1080p at 30 frames per second.
